Week 5 - "A beautiful week begins with a beautiful mindset"

Our minds are powerful!

Sometimes I wake up in a "mood" where everything seems to be a struggle and I am annoyed. At times it's caused an entire day to go sideways, but I've learned through trial and practice that I can redirect my energy.

I send goofy dance videos most morning to some of my family to make them laugh or inspire them to put a little boogie in their day. It's a huge mood booster for me to put on some happy, fun, dancy, positive music. Trust me - I do not wake up in that perky mood. I constantly chase sleep. When I was a young mom, it was the demands of parenthood that kept me awake at all hours, then it was the worry and adventures of teenagers, and the reward for keeping them safe and healthy to adulthood - menopause! Whee!

Perspective is another helpful tool. Sometimes it's a simple reminder to myself like if I catch myself whining about no cream for my coffee, I'll say "first world problems, girlfriend." Yes I talk to myself. If it's a bigger issue that's got my knickers in a knot, I will sit down and make a list of pros/cons or ideas and sort it out on paper. Often times just letting it out takes away it's power and I can see the best solution.

Self-Care

This deserves its own title because it's so important to our overall health and well-being. When we take the time to fill our cup, we are better able to process the demands of everyday life, work, relationships. The example of the airplane spiel about "in the event of a loss of cabin pressure, be sure to put your oxygen mask on before helping someone else" is in the front of my mind as I hear it on 4 planes every time I visit family.

Self-care comes in many forms and can be different for everyone, but there are some things that top the list including exercise and getting outdoors. Good routines, proper sleep and healthy eating habits are key for me.

What helps you start your day off on a positive note?
